Q. How did you get into CV writing?
A. I didn’t just wake up one day thinking ‘I’d love to be a CV writer!’

On the contrary, for me, CV writing came about quite by chance. One of my friends had a CV company, and he knew I was good at writing. He gave me a CV book, and asked me if I could help, and the rest is history.

It’s as simple as that.

Q. Were you always good at writing CVs?
A. I don’t think anyone could always be good CV writing, and the reason I say this is because experience is most definitely a factor and it does play a part, and you can’t just gain 10 years’ experience at the flick of a switch. It’s something you need to work at, and there is a learning curve.

Another important factor is that initially I didn’t really have anything to go on, apart from one or two books I had read – and those were flawed. Consequently, in the early days I used to write CVs the same way as pretty much every other professional CV writer. It was only later that I started discover that that there were better ways to write more powerful and effective CVs.
