Top CV Writers

We are almost certainly the fussiest CV firm around when it comes to taking on new writers.

This is the main reason why our small team is… well… still small.

In fact, I’d like to tell you a short story.

My name’s Pete, and I’m one of the professional CV writers here at CV Succeed. At the time of writing, I’ve been with the company for a little over 12 months, and have been working as a professional writer in the marketing world for a number of years. I’ve also written for other professional CV services, and other clients I have written for include huge tech companies.

But do you think that got me straight through the door here?

Well… Not exactly.

Not only did I go through an extensive testing process, but Paul (our benevolent leader and a published career sector author) checked every one of my orders for the first two months to ensure it was up to scratch.

And that’s still not all.

He still does spot checks, and takes a very strong interest in client feedback. We also routinely discuss CV and personal statement writing processes (I’ve had to go through an extensive period of working on personal statements before I even got to CVs – and this is in spite of the fact I already have considerable professional CV writing experience from elsewhere).

It is true to say that things are done differently here at CV Succeed, and as a writer I would say that my job is made much more difficult because of this. Not only are the standards far higher than anything I’ve experienced before at other professional writing companies, but in addition, the methods used here are much more demanding for a writer. For example, elsewhere I pretty much had the freedom to write what I wanted, in more or less in as many words as I wanted, and no one ever batted an eyelid. Here, on the other hand, the demands are far more exacting.

I no longer have the luxury of writing without space constraints, on the contrary, everything must be refined down in size (both vertically and horizontally) whilst at the same time proactively adding value in terms of sales message, relevancy and ultimately impact. It’s by far and away the most demanding way of writing CVs, and I imagine that many writers would be deterred from applying here because of what is expected of CV Succeed consultants. I can only speak for myself, but personally I was somewhat disillusioned at the lack of quality when I worked elsewhere, I was (and still am) highly motivated to do the best job possible for my clients, and I didn’t think the work produced at other companies was as good as it could have been, or needed to be. I therefore set out to learn more about the art, with the aim of becoming the best CV writer I could be, and I concluded that the best way to achieve this would be to learn from the best. Hence my application to CV Succeed, and the start of a brand-new learning curve.

Looking back with hindsight, I can see that I would never have been able to write top quality CVs working at my other companies, primarily because the methods used elsewhere are just not conducive to it. But more than that, the mindset elsewhere was different – there wasn’t so much attention to detail, or as much desire to jump through all necessary hoops to do the best possible job for the client.

Yes, it is harder working as a writer with CV Succeed, but on the other hand, it’s also more rewarding, and I can sleep better at night knowing that I have given my clients the best possible chance of success.

Elsewhere on the CV Succeed website it mentions that we look for the cream of the professional CV writing crop when it comes to recruitment, but really, we also go beyond just hiring and letting even experienced and talented consultants loose on your CV. It’s not a typical recruitment policy, but without it we wouldn’t be able to achieve exceptional results for our highly valued clients.
